Mike Welch

Lead Guide, Owner

Mike Welch founded Sundog Ski Guides to unite his greatest joys, exploring the mountains of Alaska and sharing their beauty with others. Mike started his ski career in 1995 ski patrolling at Hilltop ski area in Anchorage, Alaska.  He ski patrolled at Arctic Valley and Alyeska Resort, then joined Alta Ski Patrol in Utah. He joined Chugach Powder Guides in 2007, becoming CPG snow safety director in 2017.  Mike shares his home in Girdwood, Alaska with his partner Tatiana and daughter Sylvie, who both love to ski.

Melanee's life started on a small cabin homestead in Haines, Alaska. Raised with 3 other siblings by adventurous parents, Melanie had an early start skiing and exploring. Alaska's weather and mountains can be unforgiving and 30 years of backcountry skiing has humbled and shaped her into a person who listens to the mountains. She owns Chugach Adventures with her husband Ari and operates as a raft, kayak & glacier guide in summer. She has been a ski guide for many years and continues her knowledge with Avalanche & Snow Science education, fine-tuning her skills along the way. She agrees with her brother Miles when he wrote at 9 years old “I want to ski until I can't ski anymore

George Creighton

George grew up skiing at Bogus Basin Ski Area, Idaho. As his passion for skiing grew he moved to Utah, training as a member of the U.S. Ski Team for three seasons. Following college he worked for the Forest Service in Alaska, pursuing ski objectives in some of the world’s largest mountains. In the past ten years he has made his home above Girdwood, Alaska where he owns and operates his own ski tow rope, accessing tremendous terrain from his backyard. George teaches avalanche classes with the Alaska Avalanche School and is a guide at Chugach Powder Guides. His guiding includes two seasons in Chamonix, five years in Iceland, and an extended trip in the Caucus Mountains.

Conor Roland-Chicvara

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Conor grew up skiing the old-growth draped slopes of the Cascades. After getting his first taste of backcountry powder skiing in the low angle glades outside his home ski resort as a teenager, Conor quickly found his way into the high summits of the Cascade volcanoes and from that foundation set out to explore the west on skis. He spent two winters investigating the low density drier intermountain and continental snowpacks of the Rockies around resort towns of Alta and Big Sky before ultimately moving to Girdwood where he found the best of both the Cascades and the Rockies all in one place--the unique combination of roadside access in a maritime climate clicked for him immediately and he has called Girdwood home ever since. After spending the last five seasons developing his avalanche assessment, mitigation and rescue skills as a member of Alyeska Ski Patrol, Conor is excited about continuing to share his passion for safely sliding on untracked snow as he moves on to new roles as a backcountry skiing guide and avalanche instructor this season.
